On September 22, 2021, Tamil Nadu (TN) Exports Conclave was organized at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai (TN) which was inaugurated by the state Chief Minister (CM) Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin.
- The conclave saw the signing of 24 memoranda of understanding (MoU) between the TN government and industries through which Rs 2,120.54 crore will be raised and create jobs for 41,695 people.
About Tamil Nadu Exports Conclave:
i.It was organized by various Departments of Government of TN and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India to showcase the strengths of TN in exports.
ii.It was a part of ‘Trade and Commerce Week’ from September 20-26, 2021 which is celebrated nationwide to commemorate the 75th Independence Day.
Sectors covered under MoUs:
Chemicals, IT/ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services), Steel, Leather, Apparels and General Manufacturing.
- The units for the same are likely to come up in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Dindigul and Tirunelveli districts.
Key Points regarding MoUs:
i.Of the 24 MoUs, 14 were signed with the 100% export-oriented units i.e. Industries Department (14). These will create investment of Rs 1,880.54 crore, employment opportunities for 39,150 persons.
ii.The remaining 10 were signed on behalf of the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with a cumulative investment of Rs 240 crore, and provide employment to 2,545 individuals.
iii.The MSME Trade and Investment Promotion Bureau (M-TIPB) signed a MoU with Flipkart for promotion of e-commerce among MSMEs through a supplier development programme.
iv.The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and M-TIPB inked MoU for collaboration between the MSMEs in TN and German businesses to facilitate linkages, interaction, technology collaboration and export opportunities for the MSMEs.

Other Releases during the conclave by CM:
i.Release of Tamil Nadu Exports Promotion Strategy as the state aims to increase its exports to USD 100 billion by 2030.
ii.Release of MSME (Micro, small & Medium Enterprises) Exporters Handbook which provides comprehensive information about various export clearances and processes required for MSMEs, in a simple format.
iii.The CM also handed over the first two allotment orders to companies that have proposed to open units at a polymer park in the State. Â The park has been established on 240 acres at Voyalur near Ponneri.
iv.As the TN government cancelled the 1% market cess on cotton and waste cotton, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will now set up Cotton Depots for the first time in TN.
