Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha launched Arasu fibre, the scheme to provide affordable internet services to every household across the state through the TACTV(Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation).

- Making a suo motu statement in the assembly, Jayalalitha told that the state government have obtained the ISP license from Union IT ministry to provide internet services
- The government has also signed a pact with Rail tel to provide high speed broadband services
- Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services will also be provided along with high-speed broadband and other internet services
- Bharat Net–the central government’s scheme is also to be implemented by the state government
- It is also said that 12,524 rural local bodies will be connected through Optical Fibre at an investment of Rs 3,000 crore with Central Assistance and a Tamil Nadu FibreNet Corporation will be created for this purpose
- Already 552 cable TV operators have been roped to provide internet to people using ISP license
- For the past 15 days, over 1100 customers from across the state are enjoying free internet services through TACTV on an experimental basis
- The service will soon be extended to 15000 customers
- It is told that within 3 months, the centralized network operation centre to be put up in Chennai to increase the number to 50000
- The incidental charges for installation of router, modem etc have to be borne by the customer
- TACTV is finalizing the policy for registration of LCO
