India beat Sri Lanka by 91 runs in 3rd, final T-20 International to clinch three-match series 2-1The cricket team of Sri Lanka toured India for 3 One Day Internationals(ODIs) and 3 Twenty 20 Internationals(T20Is) from 3rd to 15th January 2023. India defeated Sri Lanka in a comprehensive manner in both ODI and T20I.

  • In ODI, the Indian team captained by Rohit Sharma defeated Sri Lanka by 3-0 and in T20I, the Indian Team captained by Hardik Pandya defeated Sri Lanka by 2-1.
  • The Sri Lanka team was captained by Dasun Shanaka(for both ODI and T20I).

The T20I  matches were held on January 3, January 5 and January 7, 2023 and the ODI matches were held on January 10, January 12 and January 15 2023.

India defeated Sri Lanka in T20I: 

India defeated Sri Lanka by 91 runs in the 3rd and final T20I match held in Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, Gujarat. India won the 3-match T20I series by 2-1.

  • All-Rounder Axar Rajeshbhai Patel of India won the Player(Man) of the Series award for scoring 117 runs and picking 3 wickets in the series

Suryakumar Yadav becomes fastest player to reach 1500 runs:

Suryakumar Yadav has become the fastest player to reach 1,500 runs in T20 International cricket in terms of balls faced.

  • In 45 matches and 43 innings, Suryakumar has scored 1,578 runs at an average of 46.41. He achieved the feat with only 843 balls.
  • He has three centuries and 13 half-centuries in the format, with the best individual score of 117.
  • He is the 3rd fastest batter to reach the 1500-run mark in terms of innings.
  • Indian batter Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Australian veteran Aaron Finch and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, took 39 innings to score 1,500 runs in T20 International cricket.
  • Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Rizwan reached the milestone in 42 innings and Suryakumar did so in 43 innings.

India beat Sri Lanka by record 317 runs in final ODI: Clinch series 3-0

India defeated Sri Lanka in the largest ever one-day victory margin of 317 runs in the 3rd and final ODI held in Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

  • By winning the 3rd and final ODI against Sri Lanka, India clinched the 3-match ODI series by 3-0.

Note:

This breaks the previous record held by New Zealand, for a 290-run win over Ireland in Aberdeen in July 2008.

Virat Kohli declared Man of the match & Man of the Series: 

Indian cricketer & Former Captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli was declared both man-of-the-match (3rd ODI) and Player(Man)-of-the-series (ODI series )for scoring 283 runs in 3 matches, including 2 centuries, one in the first match and one in the 3rd match.

  • This marks his 9th Player of the Series Award in ODI cricket.

Virat Kohli equals Sachin Tendulkar’s record of slamming 20 ODI centuries on home soil

On 10th January 2023, Virat Kohli equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring 20 ODI centuries on home soil.

  • Kohli score his 20th century on home soil with just 80 balls against Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI of the 3-match series.
  • He scored 113 runs off 87 balls.
  • Kohli took only 99 innings to score his 20th ODI hundred on home soil, while Sachin took 160 innings to achieve the feat.
  • So far, Kohli has scored 45 ODI centuries, 27 test tons and one T20 hundred.

He also surpassed Sachin’s record of most ODI hundreds against Sri Lanka.

  • He now has 9 centuries against Sri Lanka whereas Tendulkar has 8 centuries against Sri Lanka.
