On December 6, 2020, Mexico’s Sergio Perez (Racing Point BWT Mercedes) won the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula 1 Rolex Sakhir Grand Prix 2020) held at ‘Outer Circuit’ configuration at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain.Indian Driver Jehan Daruvala became the First Indian to win a Formula 2 race during the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez became the First Mexican Formula One Driver to win a race since Pedro Rodriguez who won the 1970 Belgain Grand Prix. The Championships are organized by Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
i.France’s Esteban Ocon (Renault) finished second, while Canada’s Lance Stroll (Racing Point BWT Mercedes) came Third.
ii.The race is the 16th and Penultimate round of the 2020 Formula One World Championship, it is also the second of the two consecutive races held in Bahrain International Circuit.
Key Points:
i.2020 F1 Driver’s Champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) did not participate in the race as he tested Positive for COVID-19, he was replaced by George Russel.
ii.Perez has taken 190 starts to secure his maiden F1 victory.
iii.With this win, Racing Point became the first British Constructor since Lotus at 2013 Australian Grand Prix to win a race.
iv.The win is Esteban’s Maiden Podium Finish.
Jehan Daruvala 1st Indian to win a Formula 2 race:
On December 6, 2020, Indian Driver Jehan Daruvala became the First Indian to win a Formula 2 race during the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.
i.Jehan drives for Carling Racing, he hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra.
ii.Formula 2 Champions are the second-tier single seater racing championship; they were introduced in 2017.
iii.It was introduced to make racing affordable, and to build an ideal training ground before racing in F1 championships.
