Reliance Foundation partnered with USAID to Launch the W-GDP WomenConnect Challenge Across India

Reliance Foundation ties up with USAIDUnder the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative, US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Reliance Foundation, arm of Reliance Industries Ltd, have partnered to bridge the gender digital divide in India. Through the partnership they will launch the W-GDP Women Connect Challenge(WCC) across India in 2020.

  • The announcement was made at a W-GDP event hosted by Stephen Biegun, US Deputy Secretary of State along with Ivanka Trump,Advisor to the US President and Bonnie Glick, Deputy USAID Administrator.

Key Info

i.W-GDP Challenge supports private sector-led approaches that close the gender digital divide, expand business opportunities and paves way for women empowerment.

ii.As part of the programme, W-GDP will associate with the Reliance Foundation to create an India-specific expression of the WCC and incorporate the lessons of previous W-GDP WCC Rounds.

About W-GDP Initiative

Establishment– The White House(Official residence and workplace of the president of the United States) had established W-GDP Initiative in february 2019. It is 1st whole-of-government approach to women’s economic empowerment.

Aim– To improve women’s opportunities for meaningful participation in the economy and to promote both prosperity and national security.

Target– It seeks to reach 50 million women in the developing world by 2025

Pillars– It focuses on 3 pillars namely, Women Prospering in the Workforce, Women Succeeding as Entrepreneurs and Women Enabled in the Economy.

Fund– It was created to source and scale the most innovative programs to advance women’s economic empowerment
