On May 1, 2020, State-owned power giant NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) appointed Ramesh Babu V as director (operations). He was the successor of Prakash Tiwari who retired on April 30, 2020.Key Points:
i.About Ramesh Babu: Babu graduated as a mechanical engineer from NIT (National Institutes of Technology) Srinagar and completed his Masters degree in thermal engineering from IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) Delhi.
ii.He joined NTPC as an executive (trainee – 12th batch) in 1987 and has more than 32 years of experience in managing large power stations in the areas of operations and maintenance, renovation and modernisation of old units as well as in the domains of efficiency & systems improvement of thermal plants.
iii.Babu as a professional manager and strategic planner has led several initiatives for improving reliability and efficiency of power stations.
iv.Experiences: Babu’s experience in the power sector includes senior management level exposure as a “Business Unit Head” of NTPC Talcher Kaniha, Odisha and NSPCL (NTPC-SAIL Company Limited) Durgapur, West Bengal.
v.Role as Director (operations): Babu will be responsible for the overall planning of safe, reliable and efficient operations of all power generating stations of the NTPC Group while ensuring fuel security & environmental compliance of these power stations.
vi.Before his appointment as director (operations), Babu served as the Executive Director (ED) to the CMD (Chairman and Managing Director) while also working on system improvement activities & strategies related to the operational excellence of NTPC power plants.
