Raja Rajeshwari becomes New York’s first Indian American judge

Raja Rajeshwari became the first Indian American criminal court judge in New York City. She is from Chennai and went to America when she was 16 years old and Now she is 43 years old. She is an assistant district attomey at the Richmond County District Attomey’s office for 16 years.

She was nominated by Mayor Bill de Blasio. There are two male judges in civil court currently who are Indian descent- Jaya Madhavan in New york City Housing Court in Bronx Country and Anil C. Singh in New York County Supreme Court.

Besides this, Raja Rajeshwari is a Bharat Natyam and Kucchipudi dancer and she performs with her group in temples and Indian events. She has a dance academy named Padmalaya Dance Academy which is named after her mother Padma Ramanathan.
