RailTel Corporation of India Limited(RailTel), owned by the Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, has ranked 124th in the Fortune India The Next 500 (2022 edition) of top midsize companies operating in India. It is the only Telecom Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) of the Government of India(GoI) on the list.
- This Fortune India The Next 500 is published annually by Fortune India English Monthly magazine.
Key Points:
i.RailTel has made improvements and jumped 67 positions up compared to its 2021 ranking (197) as a recognition of its improved and consistent performance.
ii.RailTel is one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure services providers in the country.
iii.The turnover of RailTel during FY 2020-21 stood at Rs 1,411 crore with compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) during the last five years at 12%.
Highlights of the 2022 List:
i.Only 5 more private telecom players are featured on the list in addition to RailTel.
ii.Apart from RailTel, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation(IRCTC) (ranked 309) is the only Railway PSU featuring on the list.
iii.A total of 10 GoI companies (including RailTel) are featured on the list.

i.Fortune India The Next 500, the only comprehensive one of its kind ranking of India’s midsize companies was first launched in 2015.
ii.Annually the list takes a close look at the various aspects of midsize companies’ space, and the findings of the list explain the health of corporate India and the economy.
