Punjab CM Amarinder Singh Launches Construction of 750 Rural Stadiums

PUNJAB-CM-VIRTUALLY-LAUNCHES-CONSTRUCTION-OF-750-RURAL-STADIUMSOn October 2, 2020 Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh virtually launched the construction of 750 Rural Stadiums and Playgrounds in Punjab. The stadium will facilitate youths to channelize their energy in a constructive manner.

It is being built at a cost of INR 105 Crores under Punjab’s ‘Rural Transformation Strategy’ and ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’. 

Key Points:

i.A target of at least five stadiums in each block to be completed by 2020-21.

ii.The village stadiums will be named after eminent sports persons to inspire youth.

iii.The project will also include renovation of ponds, street lights, parks, gymnasiums, community halls, drinking water supply, model Anganwadi Centers, smart schools and solid waste management system. 

iv.This initiative is part of the Smart Village Campaign launched in 2019.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):

i.A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Local Government Department, Punjab and Centre for Policy Research (CPR), Odisha for the implementation of Punjab Slum Dwellers Proprietary Act, 2020.

ii.It was signed by Principal Secretary (Local Government) Ajoy Kumar Sinha and CPR President Yamini Aiyyer. 

iii.It will grant ownership rights for people belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) on the land they live. 

iv.The MoU will ensure amenities such as sewerage, clean drinking water, electricity, drainage and road connectivity to 14 lakh slum dwellers of the urban areas in the state through technical knowhow by CPR.
