Prof. Sanjeev Galande has won the prestigious G. D. Birla Award for Scientific Research for the year 2014.
Prof. Galande has been selected as the twenty fourth winner of this award for his contribution and his pioneering research in the field of Epigenetics and Molecular Cell Biology.
He is Professor and Team Leader at the Centre of Excellence in Epigenetics of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune.
Epigenetics is an area of study about changes that influence gene function.
Prof Galande is also a recipient of Shantiswaroop Bhatnagar award.
About the award
The award was instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation and is given in recognition of scientific research of high calibre to Indian scientists below the age of 50 years living and working in the country.
It carries a prize of Rs. 2.50 lakhs.
The other noted former recipients include Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, Prof. R. A. Mashelkar, Prof. P. Balaram, and Prof. Ashoke Sen among others.
