On January 17, 2018, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Fellowships (Akademi Ratna) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskar) for the year 2016 at a function held in New Delhi.
About Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar:
Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar and Fellowships are awarded by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
- Sangeet Natak Akademi is a national level academy for performing arts set up by the Government of India. Headquartersof Sangeet Natak Akademi is located in New Delhi.
- Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Fellowships and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards are highest Indian recognition given to performing artists as well as teachers and scholars of performing arts.
- Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar was first awarded in1952.
- Since 2003, the award consist50000 cash prize, a citation, a shawl and a brass plaque.
