President Pranab Mukherjee on 9th July launched digital initiatives Swayam, Swayam Prabha, National Academic Depository and National Digital Library in New Delhi to push e-education in the country.
- The programme was attended by all Vice-Chancellors of central, state, deemed and private universities and directors of Indian Institutes of Management and Indian Institutes of Technology .
- According to ministry of human resource development (MHRD) these initiatives will increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio in the higher education from 5 (2015-16) to 30 by 2020.
- These courses have been developed by over 1,000 expert faculty members from institutions like IITs, Delhi University and JNU.
1.Swayam
It will host courses taught in classrooms from Class IX to post graduation, which can be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time. It will target those students who could not complete their studies and professional who wish to upgrade their knowledge.
2.Swayam Prabha
It is the platform of 32 DTH channels devoted to telecasting high-quality educational programmes 24X7 using GSAT-15 satellite.
3.National Academic Depository
It will facilitate online verification of certificates. All the courses are interactive and available free of cost. Students from various recognised institutes in India will be able to earn credits on clearing these online courses.
