On September 24, 2019, The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated 6th India Water Week 2019 in New Delhi with theme “Water cooperation: Coping with 21st Century Challenges”. The event was addressed by Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Sekhawat. Water Resources Ministers of various States & many reputed National and International Organizations, Research Institutes, Educational Institutions and NGOs (Non-governmental organizations) have participated in the Inaugural Function event. About 1500 delegates from India & abroad were attended the event. Japan and European Union have been associated as partner countries for this mega event.
Govt initiatives to tackle issues related to water:
To combat the problems related to water our govt has already started many initiatives like:
i. Jal Jeevan Mission initiative of Government, that envisages offering clean drinking water to all households in India.
ii. India has strengthen the internation cooperation with 14 countries like Israel, Canada, Japan, Germany and the UK (United Kingdom) for optimal utilization of water.
iii. Jal Shakti ministry initiated Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a campaign for water conservation and water security. It is focusing on 256 water-stressed districts and 1,592 water-stressed blocks.
iv. Water week: Since 2012, the Jal Shakti ministry has been organizing India Water Week as an international event to primarily focus on water-related issues
