Prime Minister launches the first phase of “Rozgar Mela”On October 22, 2022, the Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi launched the first phase of ‘Rozgar Mela’ through video conferencing in 50 centers across India. It was a recruitment drive for 10 lakh central government jobs where appointment letters were handed over to more than 75,000 newly appointed persons.

Background:

In June 2022, PM Narendra Modi reviewed the status of human resources in all central departments and ministries and instructed the recruitment of 10 lakh people to be done by the government in mission mode in the next 1.5 years.

  • In this regard, all Ministries and Departments are working to fill existing vacancies against sanctioned posts.

Key Points:

i.Rozgar Mela is a step towards the Central Government’s commitment of providing employment opportunities to the youth and ensuring the welfare of the citizens.

ii.This recruitment is done by the 38 Ministries/Departments of Government of India (GoI) themselves and through recruitment agencies like UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), SSC (Staff Selection Commission), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB).

The selection process is simplified and technically efficient for faster recruitment

iii.The appointees will join the government at various levels viz. Group – A, Group – B (Gazetted), Group – B (Non-Gazetted) and Group – C.

Recruitment in Punjab:

In Punjab, Job Fair event was organized at Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW), Patiala and Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri , Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), distributed appointment letters to new recruits from Punjab and adjoining areas during the event.

  • These newly appointed persons were appointed in PLW Patiala, ESIC (Employee’s State Insurance Corporation), Department of Posts, BSF (Border Security Force), SSB (Services Selection Board) and various national banks.

Central Government initiatives to expedite the recruitment process:

i.Utilization of technology to make the recruitment process rapid

ii.60% increase in exam conducting capacity

iii.Examination shifts increased from 3 to 4

iv.Document validation process is simplified by the use of Digilocker and Aadhaar based verification processes

i.On 19 September 2022, the Government of West Bengal (WB) approved a proposal for issuing a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Limited for development of a greenfield deep sea port project at Tajpur (West Bengal). It will create around 25,000 jobs directly and more than one lakh jobs indirectly.
