On September 11 2024, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 at India Export Mart Limited (IEML) at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP). The 3-day conference was organised by India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in partnership with SEMI and industry associations.
- Theme of SEMICON India 2024 is ‘Shaping the Semiconductor Future’.
- The conference has demonstrated India’s semiconductor strategy and policy which aims to make India a global hub for semiconductors.
- The conference witnessed the participation of over 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers from 17 countries.
Key People: Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister (CM) of UP; Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Union Minister of State (MoS) Jitin Prasad, MeitY; Ajit Manocha, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SEMI; Dr. Randhir Thakur, President and CEO of Tata Electronics, among others were present at the event.
Key Points:
i.While addressing the event, PM Narendra Modi highlighted India’s contribution to world of designing semiconductor is 20% and is growing continuously.
ii.PM informed that GoI aimed to increase India’s electronics sector now valued at over USD 150 billion to USD500 billion and to create 6 million jobs by the end of this decade.
iii.He highlighted India has been chosen as Vice Chair of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF)’s Supply Chain Council and is a key partner in the QUAD Semiconductor Supply Chain initiative.
- India had signed various agreements with countries like Japan and Singapore and also India is strengthening its cooperation with the United States of America (USA) in the semiconductor sector.
Fibocom Showcased ‘Made in India’ IoT Solutions at Electronica India 2024

SEMI, peer IESA Join Hands to Boost Semiconductor Ecosystem in India
SEMI, the global industry association that connects the semiconductor and electronic design and manufacturing value chain, has announced a strategic agreement with its peer India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), India’s premier industry body for ESDM & Intelligent Electronics on the sidelines of SEMICON India 2024.
- This strategic partnership aims to enhance India’s design and manufacturing capabilities which will give boost to India’s semiconductor ecosystem and also it is alignment with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Key Points:
i.According to the agreement, IESA will become part of the SEMI, the organizer of Semicon events including Semicon India and will represent SEMI in India.
ii.The agreement will provide a roadmap for joint policy advocacy efforts, with IESA and SEMI in partnership with both central and state governments to drive incentives for product development and manufacturing, leveraging key programmes such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and Design Linked Incentive (DLI) models.
