Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi lays foundation stone of Ken-Betwa River Linking National ProjectPrime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Madhya Pradesh (MP) on 25th December 2024 on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee inagurated and laid foundation stone of various projects including –

  • Foundation stone of Ken-Betwa River Linking National Project
  • Inauguration of Omkareshwar floating solar project
  • Foundation stone of Atal Gram Sushasan buildings
  • Release a commemorative stamp and coin marking the 100th birth anniversary of former PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Foundation stone of Ken-Betwa River Linking National Project

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Ken-Betwa River Link Project (KLBP), in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh on 25th December 2024.

  • The Union Cabinet had approved Rs 44,605 crore for the KBLP project in December 2021.
  • It will also generate 100 MW (Megawatt) of hydropower and 27 MW of solar energy.
  • Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in India to launch two river-linking projects under the national campaign: the Ken-Betwa Link Project,, and the Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir Link Project.

About Ken-Betwa River Link Project:

i.It is the first project under the National Perspective Plan for interlinking of rivers, which was prepared in 1980.

ii.The Ken-Betwa Link Canal will have a length of 221 km including a 2-km tunnel which will transfer water from the Ken River to the Betwa river, both tributaries of the Yamuna.

iii.The Ken-Betwa Link Project has two phases. Phase-I will involve building the Daudhan Dam complex and its subsidiary units such as the Low-Level Tunnel, High Level Tunnel, Ken-Betwa Link Canal and power houses.

  • Phase-II will involve three components — Lower Orr Dam, Bina Complex Project and Kotha Barrage.

iv.It is proposed to be implemented in 8 years.

PM inaugurated Omkareshwar floating solar project

PM Modi inaugurated the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project established at Omkareshwar in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

  • The project is aimed to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the Government’s mission of net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
  • It will also help in water conservation by reducing water evaporation from the reservoir.

Foundation stone of 1153 Atal Gram Sushasan buildings.

Atal Gram Sushasan buildings will play an important role in the practical application of work, better administrative functions and efficient conduct of responsibilities of Gram Panchayats for good governance at the local level.

Release of commemorative stamp and coin

PM Modi released Rs.100 commemorative coin and stamp to honor and celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of former PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
