PM launches physical distribution of Property Cards under the SVAMITVA SchemeOn 11th October 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a physical distribution of property cards, a legal document of owning their houses under the Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas(SVAMITVA) scheme over a virtual platform. This will support to make rural India self-sufficient.

Note:

The launch of the scheme took place on the birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narayan and Nana ji Deshmukh who fought for the empowerment of Rural India and poor.

Aim:

This scheme aims to help the villagers to utilize the properties as a financial asset to get loans and other financial benefits.

Property card:

i.The property card will enable the villagers to buy and sell properties without any disputes.

ii.This card ensures the ownership of the lands and houses which will play a major role in the development of India.

iii.The record of property, self-employment avenues will facilitate the availability of loans from the banks.

Key Points:

i.The property cards, the legal papers of the houses have been handed over to the more than 1 lakh beneficiaries from 763 villages across Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

ii.The launch enables the property owners to download their property cards through SMS (short message service) link sent to their mobile phones which will be followed by the physical distribution by the respective state governments.

iii.The property cards will be distributed to every household of every village of India in the next 3 – 4 years.

About SVAMITVA scheme:

Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA), a central government scheme that aims to provide an integrated property validation solution for rural india.

Objective:

i.Under this scheme the abadi areas (areas that include inhabitant lands) will be defined using the drone surveying technology, a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Panchayati raj, State Panchayati Raj Department, State Revenue Departments and Survey of India.

ii.This will also survey the Gram Panchayat and community assets like the village road, ponds, canals, schools etc. and create a Geographic Information System(GIS) Map.
