Har Ghar Nal Yojna PM Modi launches drinking water projectsOn November 22, 2020, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched “Har Ghar Nal Yojna” (tap water to every household) worth Rs 5,555.38 crore for drinking water projects in Mirzapur and Sonbhadra districts in Vindhyachal region of Uttar Pradesh (UP).

  • In this regard, Rs 3212.18 crore will be spent in Sonbhadra and Rs 2343.20 crore will be utilized in Mirzapur.
  • This will benefit 41,41,438 families in both the districts by ensuring water supply through pipelines to 2,995 villages.
  • The scheme will be completed within the next two years (24 months).

Reason behind the launch:

The Vindhyachal region has many rivers still it faces an issue of drought as water scarcity is the key issue. In order to address this issue, the above mentioned scheme has been launched.

Other Participants:

Union Jal Shakti Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, UP Governor, Anandiben Patel and UP Chief Minister (CM), Yogi Adityanath were present on the occasion.

Points to be noted:

–There are ongoing projects in UP for the upliftment of tribal regions like Hundreds of Eklavya Model schools are being operated in such regions.

–Projects based on forest-based products are also being implemented.

–A District Mineral Fund has been established for tribal regions. In UP, Rs 800 crore have been collected under the fund and more than 6000 projects have been sanctioned.

Other Event:

After the event, Yogi Adityanath participated in the Gopastami event at Tada Falls Go Ashray Sthal in Mirzapur during which he handed over a cheque of honorarium to women who make school uniforms under Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Yojana.
