PM Modi Inaugurated & Laid Foundation Stone of Rs 11,000 crore Worth Hydropower Projects in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh

PM inaugurates & lays foundation stone of hydropower projectsPrime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi presided over the 2nd groundbreaking ceremony of the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors’ Meet in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh(HP).  He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of the hydropower projects worth ~Rs 11000 crore in Mandi, HP.

  • The Meet is aimed to boost the investment in the region through projects worth around Rs 28,000 crore.
  • The hydropower projects will assist Himachal Pradesh to improve its economy and provide additional power to the state.

Key People:

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Himachal Pradesh; Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur were present during the event.

Highlights:

i.He also inaugurated the Sawra-Kuddu Hydro Power Project, a 111 MW Project which has been built at a cost of around Rs 2,080 crore.

ii.He also laid the foundation stone of the Renukaji Dam project which has been kept pending for around 3 decades. The 40 MW project will be built at a cost of around Rs 7,000 crore

iii.He also laid the foundation stone for the Luhri Stage 1 Hydro Power Project and Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project, the first hydropower project of the Hamirpur district.

Luhri Stage 1 Hydro Power Project:

i.The Luhri Stage 1 Hydro Power Project will be developed across the river Satluj near Nirath Village, Shimla and Kullu districts, HP.

ii.Capacity- 210 megawatts(MW)

iii.The total cost of the project is Rs 1810.56 Crore.

iv.The Project is set to be commissioned in January 2026.

v.The project will benefit the nation with an addition of 758 MU (Million Unit) of renewable energy to the grid.

Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project:

i.Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project will be developed across the river Beas in Dhaulasidh, Hamirpur district, HP.

ii.Capacity: 66 MW

iii.The total cost of the project is Rs 687.97 Crore.

iv.The Project is set to be commissioned in November 2025.

v.The project will benefit the nation with an addition of 304 MU of renewable energy to the grid.

Key Points:

PM Modi highlighted that on completion, the Shree Renukaji Dam project on the Giri River will directly benefit a large area. He also stated that a large part of the income generated from this project will be spent on the development of this region.

He also stated that India had met its target of meeting 40% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil energy sources by November 2021.
