Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated, laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation over 2000 railway infrastructure projects worth around Rs 41,000 crores.
Redevelopment of 553 Railway Stations:
i.PM laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 553 railway stations spread across 27 States and Union Territories (UTs) under the Amrit Bharat scheme.
ii.These stations, redeveloped at a cost exceeding Rs 19,000 crores, will act as ‘City Centres’ integrating both sides of the city.
iii.The design of these station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture.
iv.PM Modi inaugurated Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh(UP), redeveloped at a total cost of around Rs 385 crores.
Redevelopment of 46 stations in Gujarat:
i.PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 46 stations in Gujarat under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
ii.The Railway stations at Kalupur in Ahmedabad, Rajkot junction, Jamnagar, Bilimora junction, Ankleshwar, and 41 others will be redeveloped as Amrit Stations.
iii.The design of Ahmedabad Railway Station will be inspired by Surya Mandir of Modhera in Gujarat and design of Dwarka Station will be inspired by the Dwarkadheesh Temple.
1500 Road Over Bridges and Underpasses:
i.PM Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation 1500 Road Over Bridges and Underpasses spread across 24 States and UTs.
ii.These Road over bridges and underpasses will be developed at a total cost of Rs 21,520 crores.
iii.These projects will reduce congestion, enhance safety and connectivity, and improve the capacity, and efficiency of rail travel.
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme:
The Ministry of Railways initiated the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ (ABSS), dedicated to the holistic development of railway stations nationwide.
- ABSS was launched by PM Modi in 2023.
Objective: The scheme aims for the continual enhancement of station facilities, adopting a long-term perspective.
Master Plans: The scheme involves the formulation and execution of Master Plans in stages to upgrade various amenities at stations.
Inspirations: The station walls and interiors are inspired by regional art, culture, heritage, and architecture.
