The president of Sri Lanka Shri Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa paid a 3 day official visit to India from November 28-30, 2019. It is to be noted that this was his first overseas visit after becoming President. The visit in detail are as follows,PM Modi offers $450 million LoC to Sri Lanka:
The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi announced to offer $450 million Line of Credit(LoC) to Sri Lanka in which $400 million will be provided for infrastructure projects and $50 million provided for counter terror measures to Sri Lanka.
Bilateral talks:
- Both the leaders held bilateral talks in which the Srilankan president announced the release of Indian fishermen’s boats held by Sri Lanka.
- New Delhi and Colombo (Sri Lanka) agreed to work on matters related to the economy and security.
- Both the nations also agreed to work on key issues like security, economic development and welfare of the people.
Meet with Indian leaders:
During his visit, the Srilankan president also met External Affairs Minister (EAM) Shri Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and discussed on various bilateral issues. He also met President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtra[ati Bhavan in New Delhi.
