Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to West Bengal:
Overview: On December 20, 2025, PM Narendra Modi visited WB to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for two National Highway(NH) projects worth approximately Rs.3,200 crore, enhancing connectivity between Kolkata(WB) and Siliguri, at Ranaghat in Nadia district, WB.
Laid Foundation: He laid foundation stone of 17.6 kilometre (km) long 4-lane Barasat-Barajaguli section of NH-34 in North 24 Parganas, WB.
Inauguration: He inaugurated a 66.7 km long 4-lane Barajaguli-Krishnanagar section of NH-34 in Nadia.
Significance: The projects cut travel time by 2 hours between Kolkata and Siliguri, improving traffic flow, reducing costs, and strengthening regional connectivity.
Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Assam:
Roadshow: PM Narendra Modi led a 3.8 km long roadshow which began near the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex on NH-27 and ended near Basistha Chariali, Assam
- Chief Minister (CM) of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma also participated in the roadshow.
Statue Unveiled: PM Narendra Modi unveiled an 80-foot statue of the first CM of Assam Gopinath Bordoloi in Guwahati.
Terminal Inauguration: During the visit, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam. It is spread over 1.4 lakh square metre (sq.m).
- The airport is India’s first nature-themed airport, inspired by the biodiversity and culture such as Bamboo Orchids of Assam. The airport uses 140 tonnes of local bamboo, features Kaziranga-inspired landscapes, japi motifs, rhino symbols, and 57 orchid-shaped columns.
- It includes a “Sky Forest” with nearly 1 lakh indigenous plants for a forest-like experience.
- The airport includes features such as full-body scanners, contactless DigiYatra travel, automated baggage handling, fast-track immigration, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven operations.
Paid Tribute: On December 21, 2025, he visited Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati to pay homage to the 860 martyrs of the Assam Agitation, a six-year movement from 1979 to 1985 against illegal immigration that culminated in the Assam Accord.
- He toured the Memorial and gallery of busts, garlanding the bust of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first Martyr who died on December 10, 1979.
Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project: On December 21, 2025, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) at Namrup in Dibrugarh, Assam.
- The project, with an estimated investment of Rs.10,600 crores, aims to meet the fertilizer needs of Assam and nearby states, reduce dependence on imports, create jobs, and boost regional economic growth.
- The Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea Complex is being executed by the newly formed Joint Venture (JV) Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL).
- The JV comprises the Government of Assam, Oil India Limited(OIL), National Fertilizers Ltd (NFL), Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd (HURL), and Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd (BVFCL).
