On September 13 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Aizawl, Mizoram, as part of his five-state tour covering Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal(WB), and Bihar from September 13–15, 2025.
- During his visit to Mizoram, he laid foundation stones and inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore spanning across various sectors such as railways, roadways, energy and sports.
Key Dignitaries: Pu Lalduhoma, Chief Minister (CM) of Mizoram; General Vijay Kumar (V.K.) Singh, Governor of Mizoram; and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Railways (MoR) were also present at the event.

Key Projects Inaugurated:
New Rail Line: During his visit to Mizoram, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 51.38 kilometer (km)-long Bairabi-Sairang New Rail Line built at a cost of Rs 8,070 crore in Mizoram.
- The rail line includes 45 tunnels, 55 major bridges, 87 minor bridges, 10 road crossings, and 4 new stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang.
- The new rail line links Aizawl directly to Indian Railways(IR) for the first time, making it the 4th northeastern capital with direct rail access after Guwahati (Assam); Agartala (Tripura) and Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh, AR).
Flagging-off New Express Trains: During his visit, he also flagged off 3 new express trains. Among them, he flagged-off state’s 1st Rajdhani express, Sairang-Delhi Rajdhani Express, connecting Aizawl with Delhi.
- While, other two trains flagged off were, Sairang–Guwahati Express will facilitate movement between Mizoram and Sairang-Kolkata Express will directly connect Mizoram to Kolkata.
Bypass Road: PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated 45 km long Aizawl Bypass Road, constructed at a cost of over Rs 500 crore, under Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme.
- The Thenzawl-Sialsuk Road and the Khankawn-Rongura Road, developed under North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), are aimed at easing travel and enhancing access for farmers and traders.
River Bridge:He laid the foundation stone of Chhimtuipui River Bridge on the Lawngtlai-Siaha Road in Mizoram. This new bridge will provide all-weather connectivity and reduce travel time by 2 hrs.
- It is expected to support cross-border commerce under the Kaladan Multimodal Transit framework.
Other Projects:
Sports: PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall at Tuikual (Mizoram), for Sports Development. It will provide modern sports facilities like: a multi-purpose indoor arena benefitting the state’s youth for national and international competitions.
Energy: He also laid the foundation stone of 30 TMTPA (Thousand Metric Tons Per Annum) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Bottling Plant at Mualkhang in Aizawl.
- This new plant will ensure a steady and reliable supply of LPG in Mizoram.
Education: He inaugurated Residential School at Kawrthah in Mamit aspirational district, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme.
- This newly inaugurated school will provide modern classrooms, hostels, and sports facilities including an artificial football turf and will benefit more than 10,000 children and youth.
- He also inaugurated Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Tlangnuam in Mizoram. This new school is expected to enhance enrollment, reduce dropout rates, and provide holistic education opportunities for tribal youth.
