Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Karnataka:

Laksha Gita Programme: During his visit to Udupi in Karnataka, he took part in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at Sri Krishna Matha, which was established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of Vedanta philosophy.

  • The programme is a devotional gathering of about 1 lakh participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from various fields of life, who recited the Srimad Bhagavad Gita in unison.

Suvarna Teertha Mantapa: He also inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, situated in front of the Krishna sanctum in Udupi.

  • Apart from it, he dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) for the sacred Kanakana Kindi, a sacred window through which the saint Kanakadasa is  believed to have had the diving darshan of Lord Krishna.

Inauguration of Statue of Lord Ram: PM Narendra Modi participated in the   ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava’, marking the 550th-year celebration of the Math, one of India’s oldest monastic institutions, in Partagali, Canacona, South Goa. It was made by famous sculptor Ram Sutar.

  • During the event, he unveiled the 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram, the world’s tallest, at Sri Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math.
  • He also inaugurated ‘Ramayana Theme Park’ developed on the premises by the Math.

Release of  Commemorative Coin & Stamp: During the event, PM Narendra Modi released a Rs.550 commemorative coin and postal stamp at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Goa, marking its 550th-year celebration.

  • About Coin: It has a denomination of Rs.550, weighs 22 grams, and is made of gold-plated metal as a proof coin, not intended for general circulation.
  • Its obverse design showcases the 550‑Year Celebration emblem of the Math, featuring a rising sun, 24 Namas, the Math with its flag (Dharma Danda), the inscription “550 Years,” and religious symbols including a chakra and shankha. The outer rim bears the inscriptions “सार्ध पञ्चशतमनोत्सवः” in Devanagari and “SARDHA PANCHASHATAMANOTSAV” in English, along with the years 1475 and 2025.
  • The reverse side displays India’s national emblem (Ashoka Pillar Lion Capital), the denomination “Rs. 550,” and the inscriptions “भारत / INDIA.”
  • About Stamp: The Rs. 5 commemorative stamp features the Math and the 77-foot Lord Ram statue, highlighting the 550th-year Sardha Panchashatamanotsava and the institution’s heritage and spiritual legacy.

About Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math:

Significance: Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math is recognized as the first Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math, following the Dvaita tradition established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya in the 13th century AD.

Location: The Math is headquartered in Partagali, a small town in South Goa situated on the banks of the Kushavati River.
