Overview: PM Narendra Modi dedicated various development projects worth around Rs 13,000 crore at Gaya in Bihar.
- These development projects span across various sectors such as: power, road, health, urban development, and water supply.
Key Dignitaries: Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister (CM) of Bihar; Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Bihar; Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying (MoFAH&D); among others were present at the event.
PM Modi Inaugurates Key Bridges and Highway Projects:
Aunta-Simaria Project: During his visit to Bihar, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 8.15 kilometer (km) long Aunta-Simaria bridge project on National Highway (NH-31) in Gaya, Bihar.
- The project also includes a 1.86 km long six-lane bridge built across Ganga river, constructed at a cost of more than Rs 1,870 crore.
- This bridge has been built parallel to an obsolete 2-lane dilapidated rail-cum-road bridge ‘Rajendra Setu’, which forces heavy vehicles to re-route.
- This newly inaugurated bridge connects Mokama (in Patna) with Begusarai, offers an alternative route to the old Rajendra Setu.
- The new bridge eases traffic congestion, reduces detours of over 100 km for heavy vehicles travelling between North Bihar (Begusarai, Supaul, Madhubhani,Purnea, Araria) and South Bihar areas (Sheikhpura, Nawada, Lakhisarai, among others).
4-Lane Bakhtiyarpur to Mokam Section: He also inaugurated the 4-lane Bakhtiyarpur to Mokama section of National Highways(NH-31) worth around Rs 1,900 crore.
Projects Launched in Other Key Sectors:
Power Sector: PM Narendra Modi inaugurated 660 Mega Watt (MW) Buxar thermal power plant, constructed at a cost of Rs 6,880 crore in Gaya, Bihar.
- This new thermal power plant is expected to enhance power generation capacity, improve energy security, and meet the rising electricity demand of the region.
Health Infrastructure: He also inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre at Muzzaffarpur, Bihar.
- This newly inaugurated centre features advanced Oncology Outpatient Department(OPD), Inpatient Department(IPD) wards, operation theatres, modern lab, blood bank, and a 24-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Swachh Bharat: He inaugurated the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and Sewerage Network at Munger (Bihar), built at a cost of more than Rs 520 crore.
Flagging off 2 new trains: During his visit to Bihar, he flagged off two trains, ‘Amrit Bharat Express’ between Gaya(Bihar) and Delhi which will enhance passenger convenience with modern amenities, comfort and safety.
- While another train ‘Buddhist Circuit Train’ between Vaishali(Bihar) and Koderma(Jharkhand), will give a boost to tourism and religious travel across key Buddhist sites in the state.
Laid Foundation for Urban Infrastructure Projects:
During his visit to Bihar, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for several urban infrastructure projects worth around Rs 1,260 crore.
List of Projects: These include the STP and Sewerage Network at Daudnagar (in Aurangabad), and Jehanabad; STP and interception and diversion works at Barahiya in Lakhisarai and Jamui.
Projects under AMRUT 2.0: He also laid the foundation stone of water supply projects at Aurangabad, Bodhgaya, and Jehanabad, under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0).
- These projects will provide clean drinking water, advanced sewerage systems, and enhanced sanitation thereby improving health standards and quality of life in the region.
PMAY: Also, Grih Pravesh ceremony of 12,000 rural beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana –Gramin (PMAY-G) and 4,260 beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana –Urban (PMAY-U) was held at the same event.
Highlights of PM’s Visit to WB:
Overview: PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several important development projects worth over Rs 5,200 crore in Kolkata, WB.
- These projects included 13.61 km long newly built metro network and metro services in Kolkata (WB) and a 6-lane elevated expressway, which are expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion.
- While addressing the gathering at the inauguration of these projects, PM Modi highlighted that currently, India has over 1,000 km long metro networks compared to just 250 km in 2014, which makes India the world’s 3rd largest metro system.
Key Dignitaries: The event was attended by C.V. Ananda Bose, Governor of WB; Union Minister of State (MoS) Sukanata Majumdar, Ministry of Education (MoE); Union MoS Shantanu Thakur, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW); among other key dignitaries.
3 New metro services:
PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service at the Jessore Road Metro Station in Kolkata, WB

6-Lane Elevated Kona Expressway:
Development Cost: During his visit to Kolkata, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of 7.2 km long 6-lane elevated Kona Expressway in NH-12 worth more than Rs 1,200 crore.
Significance: This new expressway will improve connectivity between Howrah(WB), surrounding rural areas, and Kolkata, reduce travel time and will give a boost to trade, commerce, and tourism in the region.
