Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Bihar and WB on July 18, 2025

On July 18, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Bihar and West Bengal (WB) to inaugurate, lay the foundation and dedicate various development projects.

  • The inaugurated projects include rail, road, rural development, fisheries, electronics and Information Technology (IT) development projects, schemes, and energy sector projects.

Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Bihar:

PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated multiple development projects worth Rs.7,000 crores in Motihari, Bihar.

Railways Sector:

i.Flagged off four Amrit Bharat Express Trains, connecting Rajendra Nagar (Patna, Bihar) to New Delhi (Delhi), Bapudham Motihari (Bihar) to Anand Vihar (Delhi), Darbhanga (Bihar) to Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh, UP), and Malda Town (WB) to Lucknow via Bhagalpur (Bihar), to boost rail connectivity from Bihar to major cities.

ii.Dedicated several key rail projects to the nation, including the Rs.4,080 crore Darbhanga–Narkatiaganj line doubling and

iii.Inaugurated the Rs.580 crore Darbhanga–Thalwara and Samastipur–Rambhadrapur doubling project; automatic signalling on the Samastipur-Bachhwara section, Bhatni-Chapra Gramin line; and Traction system upgrades on the Bhatni-Chapra section.

iv.He also launched a dedicated facility to service and maintain Vande Bharat trains to ensure seamless functioning of the high-speed trains.

Roadway Projects:

i.Laid the foundation stone for four-lanning of the Ara bypass of National Highway (NH)-319, connecting Ara-Mohania section of NH-319 to Patna-Buxar NH-922, to enhance regional connectivity, ease congestion, and reduce travel duration.

ii.Inaugurated four-lane Parariya-Mohania Section of NH-319, worth Rs.820 crores, to facilitate freight and passenger movement by linking Ara town to NH-02.

iii.Inaugurated a two-lane road on NH-333C from Sarwan (Jharkhand) to Chakai (Bihar), to enhance rural connectivity.

Information Technology(IT) Sector:

Inaugurated Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility at Darbhanga, developed at a cost of Rs. 10 crores, to nurture the local entrepreneurs in software product development, innovation and startups.

  • He also launched the state-of-the-art STPI incubation centre worth Rs.53 crores in Patna to promote IT, Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES).

Housing and Rural Development:

Released Rs.160 crores to support 40,000 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).

  • Also announced the release of Rs.400 crore to around 61,500 Self-Help Groups (SHG) in Bihar under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

Fisheries sector:

Inaugurated several fisheries development projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

  • This event marked the introduction of modern fisheries infrastructure, featuring new fish hatcheries, biofloc units, ornamental fish farming, integrated aquaculture units, and fish feed mills across multiple districts in Bihar.

Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to WB:

PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated, and dedicated development projects worth Rs.5,400 crores to the nation in Durgapur, WB.

Energy Sector:

i.Laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) City Gas Distribution Project worth approximately Rs.1,950 crores in Bankura and Purulia districts of WB. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.

  • It is designed to deliver Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to around 5.55 lakh households, 250 commercial establishments, and more than 35 industrial consumers across Bankura and Purulia.

ii.Dedicated to the nation the 132 km Durgapur to Kolkata section of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, laid as part of the ambitious Jagdishpur-Haldia and Bokaro-Dhamra Pipeline, also known as the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) Project.

  • The Durgapur to Kolkata section, valued at over Rs.1,190 crore, passes through the districts of Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Nadia in WB.

iii.Dedicated the retrofitting of Pollution Control Systems, Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) at Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Station and Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station of Damodar Valley Corporation, valued at over Rs.1,457 crore.

Railway sector:

i.Inaugurated the 36-km Purulia-Kotshila section rail line doubling project worth Rs. 390 crores in Paschim Bardhaman district, WB, to enhance connectivity between industrial hubs in Jharkhand such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad with Kolkata.

ii.Inaugurated two Road Over Bridges(ROB) projects with combined cost of Rs.380 in Durgapur, Paschim Bardhaman under the’ Sethu Bharatam Programme’ to reduce accidents and improve safety of the road-rail interface.
