Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Goa on 6th February, 2024On 6th February 2024, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Goa and inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth over Rs 1330 crores during the Viksit Bharat-Viksit Goa 2047 programme in Goa.

Details of the New Projects: 

i.PM inaugurated a 100 TPD (Tonnes Per Day) Integrated Waste Management Facility in South Goa.

  • It has been developed for the scientific treatment of 60 TPD wet waste and 40 TPD dry waste.
  • It also includes a 500 kilo-watt (KW) solar power plant that will generate surplus electricity.

ii.He laid the foundation stone for Passenger Ropeway which will connect Panaji and Reis Magos. It includes some tourism activities to promote the tourism industry in Goa.

iii.He laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 100 MLD (Mega Liters per Day) Water Treatment Plant in South Goa.

iv.He also distributed appointment letters to 1930 new government recruits in various departments under Rozgar Mela” and handed over sanction letters to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes.

Inaugurated ONGC’s Sea Survival Centre in Goa

PM Modi inaugurated the one-of-kind integrated Sea Survival Centre of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) in Goa on 6th February 2024.

Features:

i.The Centre will give a boost to the Indian sea survival training ecosystem to match with international standards.

ii.Annually, the centre will train to about 10,000 to 15,000 personnel in simulated and controlled extreme weather conditions.

iii.This will develop the personnel’s sea survival skills and increase the chance of safe escape from real-life disaster.

PM Modi Inaugurated the Permanent Campus of NIT Goa

PM Modi virtually inaugurated the permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa in Cuncolim, South Goa, Goa in the presence of P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Governor of Goa and Pramod Sawant, CM of Goa.

About the permanent Campus of NIT Goa: 

i.The campus covers a total area of 70,750 sqm and it is constructed at a cost of Rs 390.83 crore. It can accommodate 1260 students.

ii.The facilities of the campus include, a tutorial complex, departmental complex, seminar complex, administrative complex, hostels, health centre, staff quarters, amenity centre and sports grounds among other utilities.

Note: NIT Goa was established in 2010 and it has been operating from the temporary campus at Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, Goa.

PM Modi Inaugurated National Institute of Watersports

PM inaugurated and dedicated to the nation, a new campus of the National Institute of Watersports in Goa.

  • The institute will introduce 28 tailor-made courses related to watersports and water rescue activities available for both public and armed forces.

Second edition of India Energy Week – 6th to 9th February 2024

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 2nd edition of India Energy Week(IEW 2024) in Goa. IEW 2024, organised by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) and Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), was held from 6th to 9th February 2024.

Location: Institute of Petroleum Safety, Health and Environment Management(IPSHEM)-Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) training institute, Velim Betul in South Goa, Goa.

Note: The 1st edition of IEW was held in Bengaluru, Karnataka from 6th to 8th February 2023, as a part of the G20 (Group of 20) events.

Key People: P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Governor of Goa, Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister (CM) of Goa and Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas participated in the event.

About IEW 2024: 

i.IEW 2024 is India’s largest energy exhibition and conference. It aims to bring together the entire energy value chain and will help to achieve India’s energy transition goals.

ii.IEW 2024 witnessed the participation of energy ministers from 17 countries, more than 35000 attendees and more than 900 exhibitors.

iii.IEW 2024 featured 6 dedicated country pavilions: Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, the United Kingdom(UK) and the United States of America(USA).

iv.A special Make in India Pavilion was also organised to demonstrate innovative solutions within Indian MSMEs (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) that are leading in the energy sector.

Points to note:  

i.During the IEW 2024 event, PM Modi interacted with the global energy Chief Executive Officers(CEOs) and Experts.

ii.He also highlighted that India is the World’s 3rd largest energy consumer after China (1st) and the USA(2nd).

iii.India is also the 3rd largest oil consumer and the 4th largest LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) importer, refiner and automobile market in the world.
