Overview of PM Modi’s 2-day Visit to Jharkhand; Addresses Celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2023

PM Modi visit to Jharkhand on Janjatiya Gaurav DiwasPrime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi paid a 2-day visit to Jharkhand from 15th to 16th November 2023. During his visit, PM Modi participated in the event organised to mark Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, 2023 in Khunti, Jharkhand.

  • He also greeted the people of Jharkhand on the foundation day of Jharkhand (15th November).

Note: Jharkhand became the 28th state of India on 15th November 2000 after the Chhotanagpur area was segregated from the southern half of Bihar to become a new Indian state.

PM address on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2023 – 15th November

PM Modi addressed the event organised to mark the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2023(15th November) in Khunti, Jharkhand.

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, also known as Tribal Pride Day, is annually observed across India on 15th November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda,  an iconic freedom fighter

  • 15th November 2023 marks the 3rd observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

The day observed since 2021 acknowledges the tribal community’s role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting Indian values of national pride, valour, and hospitality.

Key Points:

i.PM Modi paid tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary and visited Ulihatu Village in Jharkhand, the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and paid floral tribute to his statue.

  • He became the first PM to visit Ulihatu Village, the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

ii.PM Modi also visited the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park and Freedom Fighter Museum in Ranchi.

PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Projects Worth Around Rs 7,200 Crores in Jharkhand

PM Modi laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 7,200 crores in various sectors like rail, road, education, coal, petroleum, and natural gas. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure and services in Jharkhand.

These projects include:

  • Four-laning of the Mahagama-Hansdiha section of National Highway(NH) 133.
  • Four-laning of the Basukinath-Deoghar section of NH114 A.
  • KDH-Purnadih Coal Handling Plant.
  • New academic and administrative building of Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi (IIIT Ranchi).

Key Points:

i.PM Modi inaugurated and dedicated various projects which includes

  • A new campus of the Indian Institute Of Management (IIM) Ranchi.
  • A new hostel at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad
  • A Petroleum Oil and Lubricants (POL) depot in Bokaro,
  • several railway projects, including the doubling of the Hatia-Pakra Section, Talgaria-Bokaro Section, and Jarangdih-Patratu section.

ii.PM also dedicated the achievement of 100% Railway Electrification in Jharkhand.

iiii.PM Modi emphasized the 4 pillars of a developed India: women’s power or Nari Shakti, food producers of India, the youth of the country and lastly India’s neo-middle class and the poor.

PM Modi Unveils Landmark Initiatives, ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra‘ and ‘PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan,’

During this visit, PM Modi launched two significant initiatives, namely the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and the ‘PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN)’ from Jharkhand.

  • Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ will be a medium of saturation goals of the government and the PM JANMAN will protect the tribes on the verge of extinction and nurture them.
  • ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ which will continue till 26th January 2024 starting from 15th November 2023, Jayanti of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

About Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra:

i.The Yatra focuses on creating awareness and delivering the benefits of welfare schemes to the people.

  • These include sanitation facilities, financial services, electricity connections, LPG cylinders, housing for the poor, food security, proper nutrition, healthcare, and clean drinking water.

ii.The Viksit Bharat Campaign, among the largest outreach initiatives, aims to cover over 2.55 lakh Gram Panchayats and 3,600 urban local bodies by January 25, 2024, reaching every district in the country..

iv.To kickstart the yatra, PM Modi flagged off 118 Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) vans in Khunti, Jharkhand, with the goal of reaching all districts across the country by January 25, 2024.

v.Specific concerns of tribal areas, including Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, enrolment in Eklavya Model Residential Schools, scholarship schemes, Forest Right Titles, Van Dhan Vikas Kendra, and organizing Self Help Groups, were also addressed.

About PM JANMAN: 

i.Under PM JANMAN, the government will reach out to tribal groups and primitive tribes most of whom still dwell in the forests.

ii.The government has identified 75 tribal communities and primitive tribes with a population of lakhs who reside in more than 22 thousand villages in India.

iii.The government is set to spend Rs 24,000 crores on this mega campaign.

PM Modi Inaugurated PM-PVTG Mission

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PM PVTG) Mission, allocating Rs 24,000 crore for the comprehensive development of approximately 28 lakh individuals belonging to 75 PVTGs across India.

  • The launch took place at Birsa College ground in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.

PM-PVTG Mission: 

i.This mission focuses on the holistic development of around 28 lakh people of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) across 18 states and union territories, residing in 22,544 villages.

ii.The PM PVTG Mission aims to provide essential amenities such as road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, improved access to education, health, and nutrition, as well as sustainable livelihood opportunities to habitations of PVTGs, which are often remote and inaccessible.

PM Modi Releases Rs 18,000 Crore in 15th Installment of PM-KISAN Scheme to 8 Crore Beneficiaries

During the 3rd Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, PM Modi digitally released the 15th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme at Birsa College in Khunti, Jharkhand.

  • The event marked the disbursement of over Rs 18,000 crore to more than 8 crore beneficiary farmers nationwide.
  • Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren were present during the event.

About PM-KISAN:

PM-KISAN, launched on February 24, 2019, is recognized as one of the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer schemes.

The scheme provides income support to land-holding farmer families through DBT.

The scheme has disbursed benefits exceeding Rs 2.61 lakh crores to more than 11 crore farmers nationwide.

  • Objective: To provide financial support and income assistance to small and marginal farmers.
  • Financial Assistance: Rs 6,000 per year is provided to eligible farmers in three equal instalments.
  • Implementation: Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) is used to transfer the funds directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

PM-KISAN AI Chatbot (Kisan e-Mitra) addresses farmers’ grievances related to the scheme promptly and effectively.

PM Modi Unveils 1971 War Fighter Jet at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi

PM Narendra Modi unveiled a decommissioned Mikoyan Gurevich (MiG-211) fighter jet at the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi. The event was attended by Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

  • The MiG-211 was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 1964 and played a crucial role in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
