The 5th edition of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 with the theme “RISEN India – Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation” has been held at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata, West Bengal from Nov 5 – 8,2019.Organised jointly by Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences in association with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA),the festival aims to build a strategy for inclusive advancement of Science and Technology.
PM Modi inaugurates 5th IISF 2019 festival
On November 5, 2019, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the IISF2019 in Kolkata & addressed the gathering through video-conference.
i.The event witnessed a gathering of about 12,000 participants from India and abroad & more than 28 different events has been hosted.
ii.As per the PM, over 5,000 Atal Tinkering Labs have been installed in India and more than 200 Atal Incubation Centres have been created, with an aim to instil scientific temper among the masses.
Vigyanika, an International Science Literature Festival held in Kolkata
Vigyanika, an International Science Literature Festival 2019, coordinated by the CSIR(Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) -National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR), Vigyan Prasar and Vigyan Bharatias , was held as a part of the 5th IISF2019 at Kolkata. It featured a Science Book Fair, where more than thirty publishers showcased their scientific publications.
It was inaugurated by Dr Harsh Vardhan,the Union Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health and Family Welfare.
4 Guinness world record scripted during the 5th IISF 2019
World record made on below days:-
1st day(5 November 2019):The Guinness World Records for the largest astrophysics lesson (45 minutes) and assembly of spectroscopes was successfully achieved on the very 1st day of the festival with the participation of over 1,598 students.This achievement was dedicated to the great scientists of India Meghnad Saha and C. V. Raman.
Astronomers use spectroscopes to know facts such as temperature, chemical composition of celestial bodies.A very small window is used to transmit light & Compact discs are used to disperse light through the diffraction process.
2nd day (6 November 2019):The largest electronics lesson and assembly of optical media communication units at a single location has been attempted with the participation of over 1,000 students on the 2nd day. It is dedicated to Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman and Satyendra Nath Bose.
3rd day (7 November 2019):The record attempt for most people assembling Radio kits simultaneously has been attempted on with the participation of 490students.
Out of the 490 students participating in this program, 268 students were successful in completing the process within the stipulated hours.
4th day (8 November 2019):An attempt has been made to create a Guinness World Record by making the largest-ever human image of the human chromosome by a group of 415 school students.
Previous editions:
IISF was launched in 2015 & the 1st and 2nd IISF was held in New Delhi. The 3rd edition of the festival was held in Chennai,Tamil Nadu and the 4th IISF was held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
