Overview of 11th AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2019 in Ulan-Ude, Russia

11th edition of International Boxing Association, originally the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur (AIBA) Women’s World Boxing Championships 2019 was held at FSK Sports Complex, Ulan-Ude, Russia from October 3-13, 2019. The Elite Women boxing championships was organized by AIBA.
i. 224 competitors from 57 nations participated in the event and 21 nations claimed the medals.
ii. India was ranked 9th in the medal tally (4 medals) while Russia clinched the top spot.AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships

Other highlights:
i. Manju Rani became the first Indian boxer after 18 years to reach the finals on debut. In 2001, Mary Kom had reached the finals.
ii. It was Jamuna Boro’s maiden World Championships.
iii. It was a new weight category for 6-time world champion MC Mary Kom. Earlier, she fought under the 48 kg category.
