Odisha gets Rs 26,000 crore investment intent at Business Meet in Tokyo

Odisha receives investment intentOn 5th April 2023, the Odisha government received investment intents worth around Rs 26,000 crore during the Odisha Business Meet, 2023 held in Tokyo, Japan.

  • Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister(CM) of Odisha, led the high-level delegation to Japan to attract investment in Odisha.

Investment Intent: 

During the meet, Odisha received investment intents from several sectors like logistics, metal ancillary, steel, metal downstream, green hydrogen and green ammonia, green energy equipment manufacturing and Information Technology (IT) and IT enabled services (ITeS).

About Odisha Business Meet 2023: 

i.The Odisha government in association with the Indian Embassy in Japan, the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), hosted the Odisha Business Meet, 2023 in Tokyo.

ii.The meeting witnessed the participation of more than 200 delegates, representing various industries from across Japan and the Indo-Pacific region.

Key Points:

i.During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) for collaboration in the skill development sector was also signed between Nihon-Utkal (NITKAL) and International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

ii.The event also enabled trade and technology transfer discussions between Odisha business delegation and Japanese companies.

Chief Minister of Odisha also held one-to-one Government to Business Services (G2B) meetings with a number of big investors of Japan.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik chairs 1st digital cabinet meet from Kyoto

On 9th April 2023, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik chaired the first digital cabinet meeting of Odisha from the city of Kyoto, Japan and the cabinet member joined the meeting from Lok Seva Bhawan and other districts of Odisha.

i.During the first digital cabinet meeting, the files were processed and the documents were signed through the Odisha State Wide Area Network (OSWAN).

  • OSWAN is a digital platform which helps the state administration to carry data, video and voice traffic, and facilitate inter/intra-departmental communication.

ii.Using this unique platform, the cabinet ministers discussed the proposals before giving approval to them.

Directorate of Odisha Paribar:

During the digital cabinet meeting, the cabinet approved the proposal to establish a “directorate of Odisha Paribar” to look after the interests of the Odia diaspora.

i.This directorate will act as a single point of interface with the government departments for the resolution of specific issues related to labour, students, cultural promotion and clearances.

ii.It will enlist the Jagannath temples located in different parts of India and the world.

iii.It will also promote the cultural heritage of Odisha, and organise the celebrations of Odisha Diwas and the World Odia conference at regular intervals.
