National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI)Â said that it has linked 15 crore bank accounts with Aadhaar number, the unique identification number to the citizens of India.

NPCI is the is the nodal agency for all retail payment systems under the Jan Dhan scheme. It has achieved a milestone by successfully linking 15 crores bank Accounts with Aadhar Number. NPCI was incorporated in 2008 under the companies ACT 1956 as Section 25 company.
Main Objective
NPCI said that currently the main motive is on the linking the bank accounts of 17 crores Direct benefit transfer for LPG (DBTL) beneficiaries with Aadhar number by 30th June 2015. The government has been focusing on DBT to plug leakages and save cost.
Other Objectives
By linking DBT accounts with Aadhaar numbers, Government aims to bring beneficiaries of all government subsidies under the Linkage programme to plug leakages and save cost since Aadhar numbers ensures proper identification.
NPCI MD and CEO, A P Hota said that such a framework of electronic benefit transfer shall be unique and one of the largest in the world.
