On 20th July 2023, the NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) released a Revamped India Energy Security Scenarios (IESS) 2047 (IESS 2047 V3.0) to assess the integrated impact of various green energy policies of Government of India.

Objectives:Â
i.IESS 2047 is a user-friendly interactive tool that can help ministries/ departments to develop a variety of energy transition scenarios to achieve net-zero.
ii.The tool helps analyze emissions, cost, land, and water requirements till 2047 by assessing the demand and supply of energy. It provides many permutations and combinations of net-zero pathways.
iii.It provides capabilities to compute the energy needs and estimates of the country and hence reduce India’s dependency on external agencies for the estimates.
About IESS:
i.IESS an open-source tool, incorporates several policies related to alternative energy resources like Green Hydrogen, Energy Storage, Renewable Purchase Obligations, PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan), offshore wind strategy, Electric Vehicle policy, Energy efficiency, etc.
ii.The revamped IESS 2047 will be updated on a yearly basis. The baseline has been standardised at 2020 and calibrated up to 2022.
NITI Aayog and Vasudha Foundation Released the ICED 3.0
On 20th July 2023, NITI Aayog in collaboration with energy and climate think-tank Vasudha Foundation released the India Climate Energy Dashboard (ICED) 3.0 during the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) in Goa.
- The ICED is the country’s one-stop platform for revamped online data center on energy, electric mobility, climate and related economic datasets.
Key points:
i.Developed as a user-friendly platform, ICED 3.0 enables users to access and analyze datasets from 2005 using an analytical engine freely and helps to monitor India’s clean energy transition journey.
ii.It is claimed to aid policymakers, the general public, and energy and climate trackers to track the latest information from different ministries.
iii.This dashboard empowers users with over 500 parameters, over 2000 infographics, and several interactive visualizations, allowing users to understand India’s energy sector holistically.
