The 1st Edition of North Eastern Region (NER) District Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index & Dashboard 2021-22 was released. The district of East Sikkim topped the rankings.
- It was prepared by Niti Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) & Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (M/DoNER) with the support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- Objective: It aims to rank the 103 districts of 8 NER states based on their relative performance across 15 SDGs (Goal 14 -Life below Water & Goal – 17-partnerships to achieve the goals are excluded)
- The score ranges from O (bottom) to 100 (top).Each district is categorised into one of the four categories of Aspirant (score of 0-49), Performer (50-64), Front Runner (65-99) and Achiever (100).

Key findings of the Report
i.The report ranks 103 districts out of 120 districts in the NER, in which 64 districts belonged to the Front Runner category & 39 districts were in the Performer category, there are no districts in the Aspirant or Achiever categories.
ii.All districts in Sikkim and Tripura fall in the Front Runner category.
iii.The score for the 103 districts ranges from 53.00 in Kiphire (Nagaland) to 75.87 in East Sikkim (Sikkim).
iv.In SDG Goal 15: Life on Land, NER has shown excellent performance with 12 districts in the Achievers category and 86 districts in the category of Front Runners.
v.SDG Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation: more than 75 % of the districts are in the Front Runner category
vi.The NER District SDG Index follows the same methodology as the SDG India Index to meet the target of SDG 2030.
