NITI Aayog presents India’s second Voluntary National ReviewNITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog presented India’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the United Nations High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, 2020, which is being held virtually from July 7, 2020 to July 16, 2020, under the aegis of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), amid COVID-19 pandemic. This will include the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from July 14 to July 16, 2020. The theme of HLPF is “Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”.

  • The India VNR 2020 presented by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog represented NITI Aayog’s efforts towards the whole-of-society approach and its commitment towards localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • 47 Member States present their VNRs during 10 days long HLPF, 2020.

Release of Report: “Decade of Action: Taking SDGs From Global to Local”

NITI Aayog released the India’s 2nd VNR 2020 report titled “Decade of Action: Taking SDGs from Global to Local”.The report was also unveiled during this event by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Dr V.K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, Shri Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), NITI Aayog, and Smt. Sanyukta Samaddar, Adviser (SDGs), NITI Aayog.

  • The report is a comprehensive account of the adoption and implementation of the 2030 Agenda in India. Apart from presenting a review of progress on the 17 SDGs, the report discusses at length the policy and enabling environment, India’s approach to localising SDGs, and strengthening means of implementation.

Efforts by India towards SDGs:

India has achieved in reducing multidimensional poverty, providing food safety, ensuring education for all, universalising access to electricity, clean cooking fuel and sanitation, while also operationalising the world’s largest health insurance programme by covering 500 million citizens.

About UN-High-level Political Forum (HLPF):

The HLPF is the foremost international platform for follow-up and review of progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 2030 Agenda. The HLPF meets annually under the auspices of the ECOSOC of the United Nations (UN).
