National Health Authority launches 100 Microsites Project to accelerate digital health adoption across the countryOn July 28, 2023, the National Health Authority (NHA) launched the 100 Microsites project under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) to promote digital health adoption and enhance healthcare accessibility for all.

  • The project will be implemented by State Mission Directors of ABDM, while NHA will provide financial resources and overall guidance.
  • The Microsites will be established across India in various states/Union Territories (UTs).

Key Points:

i. The State and UT can collaborate with development partners and interfacing agencies to set up and manage the microsites.

ii. All healthcare facilities and professionals, especially from the private sector, will be registered in ABDM’s Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) and Health Facility Registry (HFR). ABDM-enabled applications will then be installed within the microsite, while patients visiting these centers will have their health records linked to their ABHA(Ayushman Bharat Health Account) profiles.

What are Microsites?

Microsites are clusters of ABDM-enabled small and medium-scale healthcare facilities, such as clinics, nursing homes, hospitals (with less than 10 beds), laboratories, and pharmacies, offering digital health services to patients. The project’s pilot Microsite was initiated in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in October 2022, and additional Microsites were launched in Ahmedabad and Surat, Gujarat, in March 2023.

Approval and Guidelines:

The 100 Microsites project was approved by the Mission Steering Group (MSG) during a meeting held on April 12, 2023. Subsequently, on May 31st, 2023, the NHA issued operational guidelines for the nationwide activation of Microsites.

Aim:

To raise awareness about ABDM and its benefits among small and medium-scale healthcare providers, encourage them to register on ABDM’s core registries, use ABDM-certified digital solutions and ultimately link digital health records.

Types of facilities to be covered under a Microsite:

i.Private facilities like standalone clinics, polyclinics , nursing homes, small hospitals (preferably <10 beds), labs, pharmacies, and any other healthcare facilities wherein health records are generated.

ii.Health Facilities and Health Professionals from all the systems of medicine.

Categories of a Microsite:

State/UTs have the flexibility to choose between two categories of Microsites based on regional priorities:

i.Category A Microsite: Comprising a minimum of 1000 facilities, including all types of health facilities mentioned above.

ii.Category B Microsite: Comprising a minimum of 500 facilities but less than 1000, including all types of health facilities mentioned above.
