On 7 th October-2015 the world bank assisted  National Watershed Management Project Neeranchal was approved by CCEA.

The Total cost of the Project – Rs. 2142.30 crore ( Government’s share – Rs. 1071.15 crore (50 percent) ,Rest of the amount – loan component from the World Bank.)

Project Implementing States (9 States) : Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Telangana.

The project aim :  Fulfil the watershed component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) to reduce surface runoff of rainwater, increase groundwater levels and better water availability in rainfed areas.

The concerns associated with the project :

  • Bring institutional changes in watershed and rainfed agricultural management practices.
  • Build systems that ensure watershed programmes and rainfed irrigation management practices for coordinated and quantifiable outcomes.
  • Devise strategies for the sustainability of watershed management practices in program areas.
  • support the improved equity,livelihoods and incomes of the people through the linkage on an area of inclusiveness and participation in local areas.

Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP)

Launched in : 2009-10 by the DoLR,
Launched To  : support watershed development in 28 States.

The IWMP will be implemented as the Watershed Component of PMKSY.from 2015- 16 onwards.
