National-Tourism-Day-2021National Tourism Day is annually observed across India on 25th January to encourage tourism in India and to highlight the role of tourism in the economic development of the nation.

The theme of National Tourism Day 2021 is “Dekho Apna Desh”.

Tourism in India:

i.In India the Tourism Department was established under the Ministry of Tourism and Communication in 1958.

ii.Annually, the contributions of the Tourism Industry in India affects the GDP of India.

iii.The 38 UNESCO world heritage sites in India attracts a lot of tourism across the globe.

Events:

i.The Ministry of Tourism has been organising various seminars on the theme “Dekho Apna Desh” to showcase the cultural diversity of India and enhance the tourism of India in 2021.

ii.The seminars were organised from 21st January 2021 to 22nd February 2021.

iii.As a part of the National Tourism Day, Union Minister of Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel announced a branch of Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering(IISM) in Kargil, Ladakh to encourage the local talent to achieve their dreams.

iv.The ministry has also organised a National Level Adventure Tourism in Linkipal Ski Slope Pashkum, Kargil.

UN’s World Tourism Day:

UN’s World Tourism Day is annually celebrated across the globe on 27th September since 1980 to spread awareness about the importance of Tourism and its impact on the society.

On May 11, 2020 According to the latest data of the United Nations World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) the international tourism could decline by 60-80% in 2020 when compared with 2019 figures, due to COVID-19 pandemic outbreak which will result in loss of USD 910 billion to USD 1.2 trillion and places millions of livelihoods at risk and threatens to curtail the progress made in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
