Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated a four day conference of Heads of Indian Missions and paid homage to those officials who sacrificed their lives while serving the country abroad. The theme of this conference is ‘Diplomacy for Development’. The meeting will brainstorm the projection of India abroad and perennials of foreign policy.
A memorial plaque was unveiled in the External Affairs Ministry office by PM Narendra Modi along with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. The plaque is an array of six installations representing the theme of ‘Transformation’.

- Embassy –Â Embassy is a simply a office of one country present in the capital of another country. For example, In USA, Indian Embassy is at it’s capital Washington DC.Â
- Consulate – Consulates are simply a mini version of Embassy. It cannot be established in a country’s Capital. For example, Indian consulates are present in New York, California, Texan, San Francisco..etc.Â
- High Commission – It is similar to Embassy. But High Commission refers to Office of one country in the capital of another Common Wealth Country. For example, Indian High Commission of London or Indian High Commission of Malaysia.Â
- Common Wealth Countries – Territories of the Former British Empire. No of States – 53. Current Secretary general of Common Wealth Countries is Kamalesh Sharma.Â
