On January 09, 2020 Eminent Agricultural Scientist Dr. Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan has been selected as the 1st recipient of the Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu National Award for Excellence while renowned social worker Dr. Gutta Muniratnam has been selected as the 1st recipient of the Muppavarapu National Award for Social Service. The award was given at a function in Hyderabad, Telangana.
This award which is given for the 1st time has been instituted by Muppavarapu Foundation for award for excellence while the one for social service was launched by Swarna Bharat Trust, in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu National Awards:
i.Award announcement: The announcement of the awards was made during the 10th Anniversary Celebrations of Muppavarapu Foundation and Sankranthi Sambaralu (festivities) organized in Hyderabad.
ii.Prize: The award carries a prize money of Rs 5 lakhs and a citation.
iii.MS swaminathan:Â
- He has been awarded for his contributions in the field of agriculture.
- Swaminathan is referred to as scientific leader of the green revolution movement.
iv.Dr.Gutta Muniratnam:
- Gutta is the founder secretary of Tirupati(Andhra Pradesh) based Rashtriya Seva Samiti and is also a social worker.
- Gutta has been awarded for his contributions in improving the quality of life of people through social service.
v.Members present: During the function Governor of Telangana, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan; Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Sri Bandaru Dattatreya; the acting Chief Justice(CJ) of Telangana High Court(HC), Raghavendra Singh Chauhan; the Minister of State(MoS) for Home AffairsSri. G Kishan Reddy; Minister for Tourism & Culture and Archaeology, Govt of Telangana Shri Virusanolla Srinivas Goud and other officials were present on the occasion. People from film industry like actor hri Venkatesh, Shri Mahesh Babu and film director, Shri Raghavendra Rao etc were also present.
