Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State(MoS) (Independent Charge) Science & Technology(S&T), inaugurated the 7th edition of the India International Science festival, IISF at Panaji, Goa held from 10th December to 13th December 2021.
- IISF is a joint program of the Ministry of Science & Technology(MoST), Ministry of Earth Sciences(MoES) and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), a swadeshi science movement of Bharat.
- Nodal Agency for organising IISF 2021 was the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, an autonomous institute under the MoES.
MoST and MoES organised the first edition of the IISF in 2015 at the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) in New Delhi.
The theme of IISF 2021 is ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’ – celebrating Creativity, Science, Technology and Innovation for a prosperous India.
Aim of IISF 2021:
To bring into use the innovations by the people and develop technology that is affordable to the masses.
Purpose of IISF:
To celebrate science along with people in India and across the globe.
i.The IISF offered a platform for young students, scientists and technocrats from across India to exchange knowledge and ideas.
ii.The IISF 2021 also supported and showcased flagship programmes like ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Make in India’, ‘Digital India’, ‘Smart Villages’, ‘Smart Cities’, ‘NamamiGange’, ‘Unnath Bharat Abhiyan’, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 7 years.
i.During the 4-day festival, 12 programmes were conducted on the theme of IISF 2021.
ii.The programmes of the IISF 2021 also reflected the celebration of Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75 years of Independence.
iv.The programmes of IISF 2021 include Science Film Festival, Science Literature Festival, Engineering Students Festival, Science Village Festival, Traditional Crafts and Artisans Festival, Guinness Book of World Records, Festival of Games and Toys, Global Indian Scientists and Technocrats Meet, Eco-Festival, New Age Technology Show, National Social Organizations and Institutions Meet.
IISF Concluded with 3 Guinness Records:
1st Guinness record:
On 11th December 2021, the IISF 2021, Goa, witnessed the Guinness record for ‘The most people assembling model rocket kits simultaneously at one place’.
2nd Guinness record:
On 12th December 2021, the IISF 2021, Goa, witnessed the Guinness record for ‘The most people assembling rainwater harvesting kits online and in a single venue simultaneously’
3rd Guinness record:
On 13th December 2021, the last day of the festival, the Guinness record for “The largest space exploration lesson in a single venue’ was achieved.
