Modi’s Jan Dhan Yojana entered into Guinness Records

Narendra Modi’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has entered into Guinness book of World Records for most bank accounts opened in one week. In the financial inclusion campaign (23-29th of August 2014), a total of 18,096,130 bank accounts were opened. Till now 11.5 crore accounts have been opened under PMJDY in less than five months.

• The PMJDY was launched on August 28, 2014, with a target of covering 7.5 crore households within January 26.
• The scheme includes Rs. 5,000 overdraft facility for Aadhar-linked accounts.
• The scheme provides RuPay Debit Card with inbuilt Rs. 1 lakh accident insurance cover. 
• As of anuary 17, 2014, of total bank accounts opened under this scheme, 3.23 crore have deposits worth Rs 9,188 crore.
