On November 6, 2019 the Union Minister of State(MoS) for Human Resource and Development(HRD) Shri Sanjay Dhotre launched the Shaala Darpan portal, an E-Governance school automation and management system for Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) in New Delhi. The portal was designed for knowledge/information sharing of its employees and its students. It was the first major initiative implemented to enable automation of NVS (India’s largest schooling system) through a single umbrella.
Key points:
i.Portal design: The portal was designed from ‘open source technology’ whereby it incurred low cost. The minimum cost is abided by the Guidelines for Indian govt. sites(GIGS).
ii.Portal features: The portals features are as follows- containing information related to service record, transfer/posting, disciplinary action, Automatic content recognition(ACR) tracking, mess management etc.
iii.Members present: Shri Bishwajit Kumar Singh, commissioner of NVS; Shri Vivek Khaneja, executive director of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC) and other officials were present during the event.

NVS- The Navodaya Vidyalayas are co-educational residential schools established by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. It is an autonomous organization under MHRD to provide quality modern education.
