In April 2025, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced a record-breaking addition of 25 gigawatts (GW) of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity for the Fiscal Year 2024-25 (FY25), marking nearly 35% increase from 18.57 GW in FY24.
- As of March 2025, the total installed power generation capacity in India was 483.26 GW, marking the highest increase in any year.
- As of February 28, 2025, India has installed a total of 222.86 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity. This includes 102.57 GW of solar power, 48.59 GW of wind power, 11.45 GW of bio-power, 52.07 GW of hydro power, and 8.18 GW of nuclear power.
Solar Energy Growth:
i.Solar powerĀ droveĀ 80%Ā of the renewable capacity addition, rising fromĀ 15 GW (FY24)Ā toĀ 21 GW (FY25), aĀ 38% increase.
ii.India crossedĀ 100 GWĀ of cumulative installed solar capacity inĀ 2025, becoming theĀ 4th largest solar power producer in the world.
Domestic Solar Manufacturing:Ā
i.Solar module manufacturing capacityĀ doubled fromĀ 38 GW (March 2024)Ā toĀ 74 GW (March 2025).
ii.Solar PV cell capacityĀ tripled fromĀ 9 GWĀ toĀ 25 GW, supported by theĀ Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme under MNREĀ forĀ High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules, attractingĀ Rs.Ā 41,000 croreĀ in investments.
iii.Indiaās firstĀ 2 GW ingot-wafer facility in GujaratĀ began operations inĀ FY25, reducing import dependency.
PM Surya GharĀ MuftĀ BijliĀ Yojana:
OverĀ 11.01 lakh householdsĀ benefited byĀ 31 March 2025, withĀ Rs. 5,437.20Ā croreĀ disbursed asĀ Central Financial Assistance (CFA)Ā toĀ 6.98 lakh beneficiaries.
Green Hydrogen Sector:
i.Electrolyser manufacturing incentivesĀ worthĀ Rs.Ā 2,220 croreĀ were allocated forĀ 1,500 Megawatt (MW) per annumĀ capacity.
ii.Green Hydrogen production incentivesĀ ofĀ Rs. 2,239 croreĀ targetedĀ 4.5 lakhĀ tons-per-annum (TPA).
iii.Under theĀ National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM),Ā 7 pilot projectsĀ (steel sector) receivedĀ Rs. 454 crore, whileĀ 5 transport projectsĀ securedĀ Rs. 208 croreĀ to deployĀ 37 hydrogen vehiclesĀ andĀ 9 refueling stations.
PM-KUSUM (Pradhan MantriĀ KisanĀ Urja Suraksha evamĀ UtthaanĀ Mahabhiyan) Scheme:
i.Component B:Ā 4.4 lakh solar pumpsĀ installed inĀ FY25Ā (4.2 fold higher thanĀ FY24).
ii.Component C:Ā 2.6 lakh pumps solarizedĀ (25 timesĀ higher than in FY24).
iii.Total solar pumps under PM-KUSUM crossedĀ 10 lakh, withĀ Rs. 2,680 croreĀ spent inĀ FY25Ā (268% rise).
Note: New Delhi (Delhi)-based Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA)Ā sanctionedĀ Rs.Ā 47,453 croreĀ in loans (27% rise) and disbursedĀ Rs. 30,168 croreĀ (20% increase) inĀ FY25.
