The Market Research Division of Ministry of Tourism has released report on Domestic and foreign Tourist visits to States and Union Territories for the year 2015.

Departments of Tourism of Various State Governments and UT Administrations have collected the information and sent to the Ministry of Tourism which compiled the data

In 2015, number of domestic tourist visits: 1432.0 million

In 2014, number of domestic tourist visits: 1282.8 million

% growth in 2015 compared to 2014: 11.63%

  • The top ten states contributing around 83.62% to the total number of contribution
  • Tamilnadu and Uttar Pradesh have retained the top two ranks
  • Andhra Pradesh has hold the third position leaving Karnataka and Maharashtra fourth and fifty positions respectively
  • Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal have maintained the rankings
  • Gujarat shown significant increase trend and jumped to ninth rank leaving Rajasthan at the Tenth
  • Jharkhand state lost its top 10 rankings

  • The top ten states contributing around 88.4% to the total number of contribution
  • First Four Positions have been maintained the positions as compared to previous year
  • West Bengal has been jumped to one rank above from sixth to fifth position
  • Rajasthan stand at Sixth rank
  • Kerala, Bihar and Karnataka retained the positions
  • Goa re-entered the rankings and Haryana dropped from the list
