Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Rural Development Inked MoU to Take convergence endeavour ahead

Ministry-of-Tribal-Affairs-and-Ministry-of-Rural-Development-sign-MoU-to-take-the-convergence-endeavour-aheadOn August 18, 2020, Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar addressed the State Rural Livelihoods Missions across the country through video conferencing. The meeting was also addressed by Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda and Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

  • During the occasion, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to take the convergence endeavor (efforts of both ministries) ahead and support rural poor including tribal communities.
  • Narendra Singh Tomar also released a book “Farm Livelihood Interventions under DAY-NRLM (Strategy, Convergence Framework, Models)”.

Government Schemes to Promote Livelihood:

-DAY-NRLM (Deendayal Antayodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission), which has facilitated the creation of the SHG (Self Help Groups) network of 66 lakh SHGs covering 7.14 crore rural women.

Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY), a scheme under Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the socio-economic development of the tribal population. 

-Under non-farm livelihoods, Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) has created an eco-system to support enterprises 

-PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme of Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has the objective of enhancing the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganized segment of the food processing industry.

In June 2020, an employment -cum- rural public works Campaign for 67 lakh migrant workers titled “Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan (GKRA)” has been launched for 6 states viz. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP), Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the lines of the announcement made in Rs 20 Lakh crore Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. The outlay of this campaign is Rs 50,000 Crores and the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) is the nodal Ministry for its implementation.
