On 4th September 2024, S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched the ‘Vishvasya’-Blockchain Technology Stack. It is designed to provide Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) with a geographically distributed infrastructure to support various permissioned Blockchain based applications.
- This framework aimed to enhance transparency, security, and efficiency in digital service delivery.
- The MeitY also launched the ‘NBFLite’-Lightweight Blockchain Platform, ‘Praamaanik’ and National Blockchain Portal.
National Blockchain Framework:
i.MeitY unveiled National Blockchain Framework (NBF) aimed at promoting research and application development; facilitating the state of the art, transparent, secure and trusted digital service to citizens.
ii.The stack is hosted across 3 National Informatics Centre (NIC) Data Centers in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Pune (Maharashtra), and Hyderabad (Telangana), to ensure robust and scalable service delivery.
iii.The stack is equipped with distributed infrastructure, core framework functionality, smart contracts and Application Programming Interface (API) Gateway, security, privacy and interoperability and applications development offering BaaS.
iv.MeitY also unveiled wide range of applications of Vishvasya BaaS like e-stamps solution, judiciary application, consent management framework, domicile certificate chain, tracking of agricultural produce, among others.
Key Features:
i.It has rapid end-to-end permissioned blockchain application development and deployment.
ii.It consists of ready to use security audited blockchain containers for production setup.
iii.It specifies blockchain specific security audit guidelines and best practices.
iv.The stack is augmented with documentation for easy onboarding of stakeholders.
NBFLite:
i.NBFLite is a blockchain sandbox platform, which is developed especially to cater the requirements of startups, academia like: rapid prototyping of applications, carrying out research and capacity building.
ii.It is developed jointly by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC), Pune(Maharashtra); National Informatics Centre(NIC), New Delhi(Delhi); Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology(IDRBT), Hyderabad(Telangana); Indian Institutes of Technology(IIT) Hyderabad; International Institute of Information Technology(IIIT) Hyderabad; and Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (SETS),Chennai, Tamil Nadu(TN).
Pramaanik:
i.Pramaanik is an innovative blockchain-enabled solution for verifying mobile application(app) origin and National Blockchain Portal to further support blockchain initiatives across the country.
ii.It leverages cutting-edge blockchain technology to verify the authenticity of mobile apps along with customer support details directly from the developers themselves, ensuring a tamper-proof verification process.
National Blockchain Portal:
i.The portal is based on the Content Management System(CMS) to manage the contents related to the NBF initiative.
ii.It contains information related to the current Blockchain News, latest Articles, Events, Conferences, Education & Training, Success Stories thereby providing the viewers with the latest updates on Blockchain trends.
