The 2017 ISSF World Cup was held at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad in New Delhi from February 22-March 4, 2017.The annual ISSF World Cup is governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation.

Heena Sidhu and Jitu Rai Bag Gold at Shooting World Cup

Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu bagged the first ever gold medal in the newly included 10m pistol mixed event at the ISSF Shooting World Cup.

  • The Indian pair beat Japan’s Yukari Konishi and Tomoyuki Matsuda 5-3 in the final.
  • Slovenia’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon and Kevin Venta were placed third.
  • This is the first time that mixed event has been included at a World Cup. The recommendations to include mixed gender event was given by the Abhinav Bindra-led ISSF Athletes Committee and the world governing body soon approved the proposal.
  • However, since it is being used on a trial basis in line with IOC’s aim to achieve gender equality in its 2020 Tokyo Olympics program, medals are not being awarded.

India’s Ghatkar Wins Bronze in 10 m Rifle Event

Pooja Ghatkar clinched bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup.

  • The 28 year old Ghatkar shot 228.8 in the final of 10m air rifle to finish third on the podium and win her maiden World Cup medal. She was mentored by Olympic bronze-medallist Gagan Narang.
  • Gold medal was won by China’s Mengyao Shi with a new record of score of 252.1. The silver went to China’s Lijie Dong for a score of 248.9.

Air Force Shooter Deepak Finishes 5th in 10 m Air Rifle Event

India’s Deepak Kumar gave an impressive performance in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi.

  • The Air Force shooter finished 5th with a score of 185.4. This was his maiden appearance in the World Cup.
  • Besides, another Air Force shooter, Ravi Kumar was placed 8th with 122.0 points.

Jitu Rallies Win Bronze In ISSF World Cup

Jitu Rai won gold medal in the 50-metre free pistol event on March 1, 2017 in the ISSF World Cup at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, New Delhi. Jitu created a new world record with 230.1 points.

  • This was his second medal in two days after he won the bronze medal in the 10m pistol event on February 28, 2017.ISSF Shooting World Cup 2017
  • The silver medal went to India’s Amanpreet Singh who scored a total of 226.9 points. This was his first World Cup final appearance.
  • The bronze medal was won by Vahid Golkhandan of Iran who shot a total score of 208 points. This was his first World Cup medal in international competition.
