The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched its Golden Jubilee (GJF) Scholarship Scheme 2024 to assist students from economically weaker families in accessing higher education.
- This scheme supports students enrolled in government or private universities and those pursuing technical, vocational, and integrated courses. The scholarship amount has increased by up to 100% compared to the 2022 scheme.
- The online application process for this scholarship scheme was started on December 8 2024 and will end on December 22 2024.
Overview of LICÂ GJF Scholarship Scheme 2024:
The LIC GJF Scholarship Scheme providing two types of Scholarship :
- General Scholarship: The scholarship will be provided for the entire duration of the course and
- Special Scholarship for Girl Child : The scholarship will be provided for 2 years under Special Girl Scholar, subject to the candidate fulfilling requisite eligibility conditions for renewal.
General Scholarship:
I.Eligibility:Â Open to students pursuing undergraduate studies or equivalent courses in government or private institutions.
- Students in medical, engineering, graduation, integrated, and vocational courses are eligible.
- Candidates must have secured at least 60% marks in their last qualifying examination.
- The total annual family income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh, with relaxations up to Rs 4 lakh for families where a woman (Unmarried, widow, single mother) is the sole breadwinner.
Points to Note:
i.Candidates pursuing post-graduation studies or receiving scholarships from private institutions are not eligible.
ii.Scholarships from state or central government programs do not disqualify candidates.
iii.Only one student per family can receive the scholarship, but exceptions allow two if one or both are female.
- Students changing streams can only receive the scholarship for the originally selected course duration.
II.Application Process:Â Candidates must submit their applications online via the LIC website .
III.Selection Process:
Candidates are shortlisted based on merit in their most recent examinations:
- For Regular Scholarships: Priority is given to those applying after Class 12.
- Vocational course students are also considered.
- Preference is given to female candidates in cases of simultaneous applications from male and female students of the same family.
IV.Scholarship Amount:
i.Medical Courses: Rs 40,000 per annum, disbursed in two installments of Rs 20,000 each.
- Eligible Courses: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery(BAMS), Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery(BHMS), and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).
ii.Engineering Courses: Rs 30,000 per annum, disbursed in two installments of Rs 15,000 each.
- Eligible Courses: Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology(B.Tech), and Bachelor of Architecture (BArch).
iii.Graduation in Other Fields: Rs 20,000 per annum, disbursed in two installments of Rs 10,000 each.
- Eligible Fields: Arts, Science, Commerce, Integrated Courses, Vocational Courses, and courses at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
Special scholarship for girl child:
i.An amount of Rs 15,000 per annum will be awarded to selected girl child for special scholarship after class 10th for pursuing higher studies in intermediate/10 + 2 pattern/ vocational or diploma courses through government recognized colleges/ institutions or courses in ITI for two years.
ii.The scholarship shall be payable every year in two installments of Rs 7500 each during the duration of the course, subject to eligibility.
