The 7th edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) and Sports Authority of India (SAI), Government of India (GoI), was held from May 4 to May 15 2025 across five cities in Bihar (Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai) and New Delhi (Delhi).
- Maharashtra leads the medal tally with 58 gold, 47 silver, and 53 bronze medals, totaling 158 medals followed by Haryana with 117 medals (39 gold, 27 silver and 51 bronze) and Rajasthan in third place with 60 medals (24 gold, 12 silver and 24 bronze).
- 28 sports disciplines in Khelo India Youth Games 2025. Sepak takraw has been included for the first time. E-sports have been included as a demonstration sport
Note: This marks the third consecutive victory for Maharashtra at KIYG, following their title wins in 2023 and 2024. Overall 5th title including 2019 & 2020.

About KIYG 2025:
i.KIYG 2025 was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on May 4, 2025, at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar.
ii.Over 5,000 athletes from all 36 States and Union Territories (UTs), along with the Services team, participated in the event, competing across 26 competitive sports and one demonstration sport, esports (not included in the official medal tally).
Logo:
Features orange and green (national colors) with the theme “Khel Ke Rang! Bihar Ke Sang!“, incorporates elements like the Ashoka Chakra, Nalanda University, and the House Sparrow, symbolizing Bihar’s rich cultural heritage and commitment to sports
Mascot:
The official mascot, Gajasimha, is a mythical creature combining the strength of a lion and the wisdom of an elephant, inspired by ancient sculptures from Nalanda and Bodh Gaya
Key Performances:
i.Samuel Zadeng, a 17-year-old boxer from Mizoram, won the gold medal in the 70 kilogram (kg) boys’ boxing category, marking Mizoram’s first medal at KIYG 2025.
ii.Sairaj Pardeshi from Maharashtra set three national records in the 81kg weightlifting category, securing a gold medal.
iii.The weightlifting events witnessed the setting of 13 youth national records, showcasing the emerging talent in the country.
iv.In Athletics, Maharashtra secured 10 golds, including a steeplechase win by Khushi Yadav (Bihar).
v.Host state Bihar is ranked 15th in the medal tally with a total of 36 medals, including 7 Gold.
Note: The 2024 edition of KIYG was hosted by Tamil Nadu (TN), where Maharashtra topped the medal tally with 57 gold medals.
ABOUT KHELO INDIA YOUTH GAMES (KIYG):
i.KIYG is an integral part of the Khelo India Programme, which was launched by GoI on 14th October 2017 to promote sports culture at the grassroots level.
ii.Haryana topped the inaugural edition in 2018, then known as the Khelo India School Games.
iii.Since the inception of KIYG in 2018, only two states have clinched the overall championship title, Haryana, with 2 titles (2018 and 2022), and Maharashtra, with 5 titles (2019, 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025).
